Ocean Winds’ ongoing BC-Wind offshore wind farm is getting closer to securing a service port for the duration of its operation. Ocean Winds, a 50-50 joint venture between global energy industry leaders EDPR and ENGIE, has signed a preliminary lease agreement with the port operator Szkuner Sp. z o.o. for the port in W\u0142adys\u0142awowo. The choice of W\u0142adys\u0142awowo for the location of the service base was made with the full support of the Puck Poviat Starosty.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An operations and maintenance base for the maintenance of the BC- Wind offshore wind farm will be established on an area of 3000 m2 located at the landing quay and passenger pier. The agreement relates to the delimitation of two areas: a warehouse and logistics area of 3,000 m2 and a wharf of approximately 60 m in length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The appropriate location of the service and maintenance base is a key factor determining the efficiency of the wind farm’s operation and the stability of energy supply. The location in the port of W\u0142adys\u0142awowo meets all our expectations in terms of the distance from the offshore wind farm and thus the response time of the service teams.”<\/em> – emphasises Kacper Kostrzewa, Project Director of BC-Wind, implemented by Ocean Winds in Poland.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The service harbour in W\u0142adys\u0142awowo will be an integral part of the service base for the BC-Wind project, servicing approximately 31 wind turbines located approximately 36 km from the harbour. The route from the port to the farm area is 20 nautical miles and will take approximately 75 minutes (at a speed of about 16 knots). The port in W\u0142adys\u0142awowo will be both a base for maintenance of its wind turbines and an important facility for the project not only during the operational phase, but also during the construction period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The signed preliminary lease agreement is a new chapter for the port of W\u0142adys\u0142awowo and our company. We will be one of the few ports in Poland serving wind farms in the Baltic Sea.”<\/em> – said Witold Wawrzonkoski, CEO of Szkuner, the operator of the port in W\u0142adys\u0142awowo.<\/strong><\/p>

“I see the choice of the Puck Poviat for the construction of the service base for the Ocean Winds offshore wind farm not only as our local contribution to Poland’s energy independence, but also, if not primarily, as an opportunity for the development of the Poviat. With the construction of the service base as well as during its exploration, new jobs will be created and the local infrastructure will develop dynamically,”<\/em> \u2013 adds Jaros\u0142aw Bia\u0142k, Puck Starost.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The investment in W\u0142adys\u0142awowo is expected to bring both local supply chain and employment opportunities to the city and the region as a whole, in the strongly growing offshore wind industry around the Baltic Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BC-Wind is an offshore wind farm with a capacity of up to 399 MW, located approximately 23 kilometres north of the coast at the height of the Krokowa and Choczewo municipalities in the Pomeranian province. Ocean Winds plans to start commercial operation of the BC-Wind wind farm in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
