The BC-Wind project has reached another important milestone in the development of its onshore infrastructure. We have completed three horizontal directional drilling (HDD) crossings along the onshore export cable route. This technology enabled the cable route to pass beneath a dune and Spacerowa Street in Lubiatowo, a swamp area, and archaeological sites, minimising the impact on the surrounding environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the construction of the onshore grid connection infrastructure, the general contractor, P&Q, has completed the preparation of service roads for the 275 kV cable line and carried out three horizontal directional drilling (HDD) crossings along the onshore export cable route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first HDD drilling, approximately 900 metres long and running beneath a dune and Spacerowa Street in Lubiatowo, represented the greatest technical challenge at this stage of the works. The second, approximately 450 metres long, was drilled beneath archaeological sites located along the cable route. The third one, also approximately 450 metres long, runs beneath a swamp area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The works were completed without accidents and in accordance with the applicable safety standards. Their successful completion reflects thorough technical preparation and effective cooperation between the teams involved in the construction of the onshore part of the BC-Wind project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Horizontal directional drilling technology enables infrastructure to be installed below ground without the need for open trenching along the entire route. In the case of BC-Wind, the use of HDD helps minimise disturbance to particularly sensitive areas, including environmentally valuable sites and areas of archaeological significance located along the onshore section of the export cable route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the completion of the drilling works and route preparation, the next stage will involve the installation of the onshore power cables, manufactured by TELE-FONIKA Kable. The cables will be produced at the TFKable Group\u2019s plant in Bydgoszcz. The infrastructure under construction will connect the offshore part of the BC-Wind project with the onshore power infrastructure. Once the wind farm becomes operational, it will enable electricity generated in the Baltic Sea to be transmitted to the Polish power system, supplying nearly half a million households with electricity each year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
