From the beginning of the school year 2021/2022, second and third grade students of technical secondary schools in three cities in Poland: Kazimierz Pułaski Mechanical-Electrical School Complex in Częstochowa, Energy School Complex in Gdańsk and Władysław Orkan School Complex No. 2 in Szczecin are the first to participate in a pilot educational program.
The Ocean Winds school programme called “Career with the Wind” is designed to broaden students’ horizons with knowledge of the new sector of the Polish economy that will develop with their participation.
In the first semester of the school year, students studying the following subjects: energy technician, renewable energy technician and electrical technician, were introduced to the strategic aspects of offshore wind energy development in Poland using examples of Ocean Winds’ investments around the world. The programme’s knowledge transfer model involves on-site meetings at schools in the form of engaging lectures and regular online collaboration. During the workshops held so far the students have learned about:
- plans for the Polish energy transition
- offshore wind energy sector development potential in Poland
- and the processes and technologies involved in the construction of an offshore wind farm.
For the second semester, seminars on the practical functioning of components that make up an offshore wind power plant are planned. Thanks to participation in the programme students will also have a chance to learn about the range of possibilities to continue their educational careers at universities, which are already educating competences for offshore wind energy. To this end, it is planned to initiate cooperation with technical universities, which will allow to develop a comprehensive programme for educating high school students about the prospects of gaining an interesting job in the offshore wind sector.
