We are preparing for the sea-to-land horizontal directional drilling for the offshore export cable

Construction of the grid connection infrastructure for the BC-Wind project has entered its next phase. The construction site in Lubiatowo, prepared by P&Q, the general contractor responsible for the onshore cable route, has been handed over to the contractor responsible for the installation of the offshore export cable (OEC). DEME, in cooperation with Hellenic Cables, has begun preparations for the sea-to-land horizontal directional drilling (HDD) beneath the beach.

Over the coming weeks, together with DEME and Hellenic Cables, we have planned activities related to setting up the construction site and mobilising the facilities and equipment required to commence the next stage of works.

Then, in cooperation with the specialised Polish partner – Elektropaks, we will carry out the HDD operation, which will enable the export cable to be routed precisely below ground without the need for open-cut excavation, interference with the beach, or disruption to the surrounding area. The works are scheduled for the second half of September.

As part of the HDD operation, an approximately 1,000-metre-long bore will be created, into which a protective duct will be installed. In the future, the export cable will be routed through this duct, connecting the BC-Wind offshore wind farm to the onshore substation.

Safety is our priority at every stage of the project. The works will be carried out with appropriate safety measures and proper construction site management in place, while maintaining access to beach entrance No. 37.

The next stage of the BC-Wind project is now ahead of us, bringing us closer to delivering energy from the offshore wind farm to nearly half a million households in Poland each year.
